Detailed Information

From an early age, attorney Daniel E. Martin III has been dedicated to seeking justice for the underserved and disadvantaged. Influenced by his father, his grandfather and by life experiences, his career embodies hard work, compassion, and fairness.

As a young child, he admired how his father worked tirelessly to help the little guy. Daniel says, “My father was a solo practitioner whose client base mostly consisted of indigent and working-class people who needed someone they could trust to fight for them. He showed everyone the same amount of respect and was highly respected by his legal peers and the community in return. This inspired me to follow the same path and become someone that people can trust will fight for them at any cost.”

Prior to joining the Steinberg Law Firm, Daniel worked as a prosecutor in the 9th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. As an Assistant Solicitor, he obtained countless hours of courtroom experience prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the state of South Carolina for crimes committed in Charleston County. As a prosecutor, every day he walked the fine line of balancing the protection of the community and having compassion for defendants who usually came from disadvantaged backgrounds and poverty. His goal was to always try his best to rehabilitate defendants, so he did not see another file with their names on it on his desk.

Post college and before law school, Daniel worked as a paralegal for the International Prisoner Transfer Unit with the US Department of Justice in Washington DC. He was tasked with writing reports to suggest if foreign prisoners incarcerated in the US should serve the rest of their term in their home country to be closer to family and vice versa. Here, he learned that even federal prisoners deserve to be humanized, despite their offenses. This empathy and open-mindedness helped him greatly in his role as a prosecutor.

Daniel exemplifies compassion and relatability. Being a Charleston native with a diverse background, he feels he can relate to almost anyone. Attending both public and private schools, graduating from a HBCU and a PWI, living in the inner city and the suburbs, and his world travels have afforded him the unique opportunity to become close with and relate to people from all walks of life, backgrounds, and cultures. He recognizes that people, despite various backgrounds, have more in common than we may believe and that everyone is deserving of the same rights, respect, and opportunities.

With his varied background and exposure to all walks of life, Daniel has seen the struggles and needs of those who are less fortunate, so he takes opportunities to give back at every chance he gets including with mentorship, his fraternity-Alpha Phi Alpha, 4 Rivers Community outreach and the YWCA.

In his free time, Daniel enjoys working out, traveling the world, and giving back to the community. He has been to 34 countries, is a certified scuba diver, has swum with sharks, hiked with elephants, and is a proud Eagle Scout.
