Jeremy S. Harter is a founding partner of Harter & Schottland, P.C.. Before founding the firm, Mr. Harter developed his broad knowledge and expertise at another well known law firm. There, he was responsible for municipal prosecution and assisting in municipal corporate issues for two large villages in Lake County. In addition, Mr. Harter developed a practice in other areas, as well. Today, Mr. Harter brings this varied background to Harter & Schottland, P.C. where he represents individuals and businesses in civil litigation such as landlord / tenant cases, contractual disputes, liquor commission hearings, Illinois Secretary of State hearings and others. Moreover, Mr. Harter has extensive experience litigating traffic, misdemeanor and felony cases in both contested motion hearings and trials, where he has enjoyed tremendous success. He often receives 5 star reviews by his many loyal clients.
In line with the firm’s commitment to the surrounding community, Mr. Harter also maintains a significant volunteer commitment. Mr. Harter has served as a Judge for the Teen Court program administered by the Northern Illinois Counsel on Alcohol and Substance Abuse (NICASA). In this role, Mr. Harter has helped countless Lake County adolescents learn from their youthful indiscretions, avoid damaging marks on their records and continue to successful futures. In fact, in 2005 Mr. Harter was formally recognized and received the NICASA Partner’s Award for his commitment to community service. Mr. Harter also volunteers for the College of Lake County’s Women’s Center where he provides free legal assistance. Jeremy volunteers his time with the Lake County Court Eviction Help Desk where he assists Lake County Residents with Landlord/Tenant issues for sitting Judge Michael Betar. He was appointed to the Lake County Bar Association Board of Directors, Antioch Police Pension Fund Trustee and the Board of Directors of the Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Round Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. He was also an Editor of the 2021 Edition of the Defending DUI Practice and Procedure Manual for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE).
Jeremy Harter attended Knox College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with an emphasis in American History. He moved to Chicago thereafter to attend The John Marshall Law School. Mr. Harter was admitted to the Illinois Bar and licensed to practice law in November of 2001. He is married and has young twins that keep him on his toes.
